The theoretical segment of this thesis delves comprehensively into various facets of discourse analysis, encompassing discourse definitions, analysis methodologies, situated meanings, cohesion, coherence, and distinctions between spoken and written language. The thesis highlights the intricate nature of language, spotlighting that effective communication surpasses mere grammatical accuracy. It entails an understanding of context, the application of pragmatic strategies, and the adept use of assorted speech acts to achieve precise communicative objectives. Moreover, the thesis explores the concept of speech acts, their diverse types, and their multifaceted functions within distinct language styles, particularly within science and technology and popular scientific style. In the following segment of the thesis, the study delves deeper into specific speech acts commonly found in the realm of English in Electrical Engineering. These speech acts are the following: explication, exemplification, evaluation, argumentation, defining, concluding, and critiquing. As for the practical part of the thesis, it analyzes examples of technical and humanities texts which correspond to different speech acts, which were examined in the theoretical part.
